I haven’t even had the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant – which is T-Mobile’s variant of the Galaxy S – for two days, and one of the issues I’ve seen with it so far is that the GPS is just horrible. The Vibrant takes forever to lock onto a GPS signal and when it does, it sometimes shows my location incorrectly. After doing a little snooping around at XDA Developers, I found out I wasn’t the only one, and the forum provided a fix that works great!

There are directions on how to do this on XDA, but the instructions are a little vague and could use some clarification. The guide below should make the process fool-proof. If your Samsung Galaxy S is having GPS accuracy issues, follow the guide below to try to fix the problem.

Fix your T-Mobile Vibrant GPS issues:

Disable “Use Wireless Networks”

Navigate to Settings > Location & Security > uncheck the box next to “Use Wireless Networks”

Go to the phone and dial *#*#1472365#*#*

This step throws you into LBSTestMode menu

In the LBSTestMode menu change “Operation Mode” to MS Based

In the LBSTestMode menu, find “SUPL/CP Settings” and change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 (DO NOT use www. in front of supl)

REBOOT

Enable “Use Wireless Networks”

Navigate to Settings > Location & Security > check the box next to “Use Wireless Networks”

Should you want to revert back to your original GPS settings, you’ll need to re-enter you factory specs:

Original settings:
Operation Mode: Standalone
SERVER: www.spirent-lcs.com
PORT: 7275

After doing this, I experienced an immediate improvement in the time it took to get a GPS signal lock. Hope this helps any of you who were experiencing problems. Samsung is said to be aware of the problem, and are planning a fix in the next update for the Vibrant. It’s not clear if the above fix works on all Galaxy S variants, but we can confirm that it works on the AT&T Captivate.

Source: http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/21/t-mobile-samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s-gps-issues-fix-tutorial/

For my own problem I couldn't dial the above number from my phone so I uesed GPS Aids app instead.

Well it didn't really work for me. My GPS doesn't work at all.

If Windows ever notifies you about a weak signal, it probably means your connection isn't as fast or as reliable as it could be. Worse, you might lose your connection entirely in some parts of your home. If you're looking to improve the signal for your wireless network, try some of these tips for extending your wireless range and improving your wireless network performance.

1. Position your wireless router (or wireless access point) in a central location

When possible, place your wireless router in a central location in your home. If your wireless router is against an outside wall of your home, the signal will be weak on the other side of your home. Don't worry if you can't move your wireless router, because there are many other ways to improve your connection.

2. Move the router off the floor and away from walls and metal objects (such as metal file cabinets)

Metal, walls, and floors will interfere with your router's wireless signals. The closer your router is to these obstructions, the more severe the interference, and the weaker your connection will be.

3. Replace your router's antenna

The antennas supplied with your router are designed to be omni-directional, meaning they broadcast in all directions around the router. If your router is near an outside wall, half of the wireless signals will be sent outside your home, and much of your router's power will be wasted. Most routers don't allow you to increase the power output, but you can make better use of the power. Upgrade to a hi-gain antenna that focuses the wireless signals only one direction. You can aim the signal in the direction you need it most.

4. Replace your computer's wireless network adapter

Wireless network signals must be sent both to and from your computer. Sometimes, your router can broadcast strongly enough to reach your computer, but your computer can't send signals back to your router. To improve this, replace your laptop's PC card-based wireless network adapter with a USB network adapter that uses an external antenna. In particular, consider the Hawking Hi-Gain Wireless USB network adapter, which adds an external, hi-gain antenna to your computer and can significantly improve your range.

Laptops with built-in wireless typically have excellent antennas and don't need to have their network adapters upgraded.

5. Add a wireless repeater

Wireless repeaters extend your wireless network range without requiring you to add any wiring. Just place the wireless repeater halfway between your wireless access point and your computer, and you'll get an instant boost to your wireless signal strength. Check out the wireless repeaters from ViewSonic, D-Link, Linksys, and Buffalo Technology.

6. Change your wireless channel

Wireless routers can broadcast on several different channels, similar to the way radio stations use different channels. In the United States and Canada, these channels are 1, 6, and 11. Just like you'll sometimes hear interference on one radio station while another is perfectly clear, sometimes one wireless channel is clearer than others. Try changing your wireless router's channel through your router's configuration page to see if your signal strength improves. You don't need to change your computer's configuration, because it'll automatically detect the new channel.

7. Reduce wireless interference

If you have cordless phones or other wireless electronics in your home, your computer might not be able to "hear" your router over the noise from the other wireless devices. To quiet the noise, avoid wireless electronics that use the 2.4GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones that use the 5.8GHz or 900MHz frequencies.

8. Update your firmware or your network adapter driver

Router manufacturers regularly make free improvements to their routers. Sometimes, these improvements increase performance. To get the latest firmware updates for your router, visit your router manufacturer's website.

Similarly, network adapter vendors occasionally update the software that Windows uses to communicate with your network adapter, known as the driver. These updates typically improve performance and reliability. To get the driver updates, do the following:

Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Click Start menu, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows Vista looks for the latest updates for your computer.

Install any updates relating to your wireless network adapter.

Windows XP

Visit Microsoft Update, click Custom, and then wait while Windows XP looks for the latest updates for your computer.

Install any updates relating to your wireless adapter.

9. Pick equipment from a single vendor

While a Linksys router will work with a D-Link network adapter, you often get better performance if you pick a router and network adapter from the same vendor. Some vendors offer a performance boost of up to twice the performance when you choose their hardware: Linksys has the SpeedBooster technology, and D-Link has the 108G enhancement.

10. Upgrade 802.11b devices to 802.11g

802.11b is the most common type of wireless network, but 802.11g is about five times faster. 802.11g is backward-compatible with 802.11b, so you can still use any 802.11b equipment that you have. If you're using 802.11b and you're unhappy with the performance, consider replacing your router and network adapters with 802.11g-compatible equipment. If you're buying new equipment, definitely choose 802.11g.

Wireless networks never reach the theoretical bandwidth limits. 802.11b networks typically get 2-5Mbps. 802.11g is usually in the 13-23Mbps range. Belkin's Pre-N equipment has been measured at 37-42Mbps.

Một gã trung niên, cao khoảng 1m7, mặc đồ bộ đội, to con.

After writing this song in Vietnamese I finally understand the real meaning of the words.

Now I'm typing all these words by myself. I type, not copy/paste.

Ni wen we ai ni you duo shen
You asked how deep do I love you

Wo ai ni you ji fen?
How much do I love you?

Wo de qing ye zhen
My feeling is real

Wo de ai ye zhen
My love also real

Yue liang dai biao wo de xin.
The moons represents my heart.

Ni wen we ai ni you duo shen
You asked how deep do I love you

Wo ai ni you ji fen?
How much do I love you?

Wo de qing bu yi
My feeling doesn't move

Wo de ai bu bian
My love doesn't change

Yue liang dai biao wo de xin.
The moons represents my heart.

Qing qing de yi ge wen
A light light soft kiss

Yi jin da dong we de xin
Already can move my heart

Shen shen de yi duan qing
A short and deep feeling

Jiao wo si nian dao ru jin
Make me never forget you.

Ni wen we ai ni you duo shen
You asked how deep do I love you

Wo ai ni you ji fen?
How much do I love you?

Ni ju xiang yi xiang
You go think for once

Ni ju kan yi kan
You go look for once

Yue liang dai biao wo de xin.
The moons represents my heart.

That's my rough translation for now. Enjoy!

And this time I want to give a fix to the song and this will make it represent my current love state.

Here is the lyrics of my newly invented song:

Full Moon Represents My Heart

Man yue dai biao wo de xin

Ni wen wo ai ni you duo shen
Wo ai ni you ji fen
* ** Ni qu xiang yi xiang
Ni qu kan yi kan
Man yue dai biao wo de xin

Repeat *

Repeat **

So, what is the difference here? The official was Yue liang dai biao wo de xin. In which, "yue liang" means "the moon". But I changed it to "Man yue" which is "full moon".

That's it. If you have a wonderful love, try to keep it as a "full moon" love, which is a perfect state. I know, "the moon" keep changing it's face every few days, and that really represents reality of love.

Hey guys! I'm in Bangxiang town of Guangxi province, China right now. This town surprises me. It's a town in the mountains near the Vietnam-China border.

The road

The road over here is in really good condition. They are new. There is local road (truck road) and high-way for cars. The truck-road is what the import/export transporters can use to pass the border.

The highway here is same as other highway in China, can go up to 120km. It's also clean, wide, 2 lanes, smooth, and quiet.

Check points

If you are driving, then becareful when passing by the check points. I'm not worried about checking because I didn't have any elligal stuff, but be warned. Going from China to Vietnam direction is easy. They didn't check personal car. But the Vietnam-China direction they checked passports. Oh, and those checkers are not the normal customs, they are military solders.

OK, that's not what you need to worry, I mean traffic jam is. The road to where the Vietnamese furniture market locate is also the road for import/export. On this road, there always is over 3km queue full of trucks and containers. If you drive your personal car to here, you better have a powerful engine because you will need to use "the fast the furious" way of driving. You will need to overtake the queue, and be able to hide when there is incoming traffic.

Products

They have a wide ranges of products here. Their target consumers are Vietnamese from Vietnam, and Chinese from China.

They sell to Chinese the products they import from Vietnam. And they sell to Vietnamese the products they brought from China.

This town belong to China so they don't have to pay export tax for products made in China. However, I beleive they need to pay tax for products from Vietnam. But I'm sure they must have some sort of black market somewhere.

The most noticeable products from Vietnam are rare-wood furniture and water melon. Heh, I noticed furniture because they are big and I see they sell in very large stores and market. Furniture is big so I can see them easily. I saw fruits transported along the road, so that's the second thing I know. The most noticable fruit from Vietnam I saw is water melon. Maybe it's the season of watermelon in Vietnam?

Furniture

Furniture in Pingxiang are all Chinese style. Most Chinese furniture are imported from Vietnam. The rarest wood is yellow rosewood (huanghuali) followed by Blackwood (suanzhimu). Because China doesn't produce blackwood, so blackwood furniture is definitely either made in Vietnam, or made in China with suanzhimu wood imported from nearby countries.

In Pingxiang, there are all level of furniture dealers. There are furniture importers, wholesalers and also retailers.

Most importers can speak both Vietnamese and English, and many of them are actually Vietnamese. The importers reside near the boder of Vietnam (20km west of Pingxiang centre). It's much cheaper to buy there, but nearly impossible to get to your home.

Then the next level is the wholesalers, also reside near the border, and in Pinxiang business down town. The problem is that most of them also act as retailers too. So basically, if you buy one or two set, you will be treated as retail customers, and of course the price won't be as low as the wholesale price, and normally is 2 times more than near the border.

The furniture stores in Pingxiang town center are much bigger and well presented then those near the borders. Some are even bigger than the stores in big cities of China. I guess that's because 2 reasons: (1) the land here is much cheaper, (2) they have much more furniture.

Sign-boards

The first noticable thing is the sign-board. Most stores have tri-lingual sign board. They write big words in Chinese, Vietnamese on the left side, and English on the right side. I suppose they all hired the same sign-board maker. That could be the only reason why their sign boards look so similar (if not the same).

I was suprised they are having English here. I thought no English speaking people would be passing Vietnam-China border.

What made me really laughing is most sign boards have spelling and grammar mistakes for English and Vietnamese. Especially the Vietnamese language, they often misplace the tone signs. Other than that, they mixed up the syllibals. I will post the photos of some signboards up for your laughter.

My misadventures

Trouble 1

I was nearly into trouble because at the time a solder was checking my passport, the driver didn't know and he accelerated. So this solder starred at the driver for a few seconds, then asked me to get out of the car. He forced me to take out everything from my pockets and performed a body check. I guess he thought I was carrying weapons or herorin. That was a little un-expected. I was the only person holding a Vietnamese passport while the rest have Chinese passport. And just when he wanted to check me out "we tried to escape" (as in the solder's thinking).

Trouble 2

Another trouble? Am I so badluck? Yes! We arrived at the custom gate of China already. That is that gate that I suppose to pass to go back to Vietnam. And I didn't go. I asked my god-mother I wanted to go right there at that moment, but she was too excited with something else and didn't respond properly. After that, Mr Wei (the driver) got us on the high-way, and was heading to Nanning, the city which is nearl y 300km away from Pingxiang.

Woah! That was really trouble, I thought. So I quickly asked my god-mother talk discuss the plan. When Mr. Wei realised the gate is where I will depart, he wanted to turn back, but... it's a damn Chinese high-way, there is no return when you are already on it. So we had to head to Pingxiang which is nearly 20km away from the custom gate.

So I stucked in Pingxiang for one night.

Where to stay

I'm staying in a hotel. A twin room here cost 160CNY, that's all I know. I am holding the hotel's welcome card. And these are what I found out. I have no idea about these:

The hotel name. It's written in traditional Chinese, without pinyin, whitout English. Only the information is translated into English. So this is a mistake you should avoid if you want to do business, guys, don't ignore your own name like they are doing.

The address. Yup, street number, not even road name, and perhaps no town name either. That's another mistake, guys.

Oh, I just notice at the back of the welcome card there address and phone number. Unfortunately... address is in full Chinese without any translation. Duh! I can only read pinyin. Although it works because I can call in case I'm lost, and I can give that card to taxi drivers in case I need help, but I stil prefer some English or at least pinyin.

This is a hotel but here are what they provides:

no Internet connection for guests,

malfunctioned TV,

window face to the roof without mosquito net,

mosquito as big as long as 1 inch,

Here arewhat I like from this hotel:

shampoo,

shower gel. Yes! Finally some hotel give me shower gel,

clean shower towers,

clean toilet,

functional airconditioner, and

conventional location to shopping and net bar.

How to get online

I'm really suprise to see the shops are using Internet for watching online TV and do other things. And I'm so happy that I could find some place to get online and write this blog post.

From where I stay I could work about 200m to the nearest net bar. It cost only 2.5 CNY /hour. That's 5 times cheaper than in Australia, and 2 times more expensive than in Vietnam. I don't really care how much it costs anyway, I need to get online.

The good

This net bar has LCD screens, head phones, and webcams. Most of the customers as usual, youngsters.

It's located in a easy to find location. I guess that's why I found it.

It's quiet. People here use earphone. And I like that much more than the noisy internet cafe in Vietnam.

The bad

Unfortunately, they are using Chinese Windows XP. Nothing is in English except the keyboard. I was trying to download Firefox or Chrome, but the connection is so slow I can't do it. I had to use this IE6 in Chinese.

Everytime I click a link, it open in new window. Doh! It's good that I don't loose the last webpage, but it's terrible I have to maintain so many IE windows at once.

Everytime I press "Ctrl+Shift" I got to press that again 5 times to switch back to English, the rests are Chinese keyboard in different styles.

While I was quietly checking my blog, there was a physical fight. A boy was chasing another from inside to outside the store, and keep shouting for a while. Other youngsters some encourage, some stop.

So guys, if you open a net bar here, please install some computers with English, or at least, make it possible for English speakers to use it. I'm a very technical person so I can, how about others?

What's next?

This is rather a very long story. I bet I need to split it into seperate topics to discuss about. Or should I talk in less words? Please let me know.

Have you seen a flying helicopter toy? I love playing with those flying toys especially the airplanes and helicopters. When I was a kid I always wanted to make one by myself. Now I may not have that chance anymore.

My dreams

When we are kids we have lots of dream. Mine is all about technologies. I wanted to make floating boats. I did it. I wanted to make flying aircraft. I did it. But the boats I made only could float and run in one direction without remote control. The flying machine I made could only fly a few meters using my own throwing force.

I am in China right now, and I can't stop watching the toyshop every time I passby. I don't watch anything rather than the flying toys. They have variety of these kinds. And the best playable indoor are those micro helicopters.

The pricing ranges from 80 CNY to 500 CNY depending on size and quality. Most importantly, the price depends on where you buy it and what brand. If I buy online I could get a medium size one for just 100 CNY. While the same size buying at the shop would cost me 200 CNY.

I am happy that my best friend in Vietnam also liked to buy one. He was also so excited when I mentioned about "flying air-crafts". He is the one that gave me the little extra encouragement I needed to make the decision to buy.

That's affordable. For this kind of toy I'm willing to spend 1000 RMB (about 200 AUD). That's cheap!

The Barriers

My god-mother doesn't like me buy toys, so it's really hard for me to get one, even though they are just around $10. Think about that I really got pissed of everytime going shopping with her. You know, I'm over 26 now and still can't buy my own toys???

Last time in 2008 my parents came to China too. My father was so excited he wanted to buy a few to bring to Vietnam as gifts. I was of course, alike my father, really wanted to buy them. Woman is really a big barrier of toys. My mother disagreed and we didn't buy them. DuH!

That's not really the issue. I am a grown up, and I don't buy just any toys. I like IT gadgets like USE disks, SD cards, etc. And I love flying toys. I love those so much even a flying dish could make me happy for days.

No, I'm not joking. I love flying helicopters. I will definitely build one by myself when I have enough time and tools.

BOUGHT

Red Toy Helicopter

The happiest thing happened to me is that my girlfriend Cindy allowed me to buy 3 helicopters yesterday. She isn't same as her mother. She loves me and she loves making me happy. That's one of the reason I love her.

We bought 2 small size and 1 a little bigger. From 2 x 180 + 240, it came to 2 x 120 + 170 = 410 RMB after a revisit and a few bargains.

DUH, I didn't take photos of the toys. Will update that later when I have enough time, OK?

Sadly, when I visit another shop in the basement I found out the price there was only 75% compare with the previous store. I could buy in the later store a helicopter that is twice the size of the biggest I bought, for just the same price. DUH!!! My girlfriend had to calm me down saying the ones I bought are of better quality. Of course I know what quality and what price I paid But I thanks her anyway because that's very supportive.

I am checking the price of those in Vietnam. If it's cheaper in China, I definitely will buy 5 more of those and bring home to give my best friends and relatives. I'm sure they will love it.

What's next?

My camera is not available right now. I will take photos and videos of the units I bought and write about them later on. So stay tune

I have so true sense of love since my girlfriend is right next to me. It originally was joke I made to her, but really when I think about it, it's so true, so I want to tell you, too.

The guy who made the song really is tricky. If the song title is really "The moon represents my heart" in English then I can see through what he really thinks about love.

Traditional 'Love = Moon'

Chinese girls may think that the love as the Moon is wonderful. They think it's forever love, always love, strongest love, most beautiful love.

The guys thinks that using the Moon can make the girls happy. They "exploited" the Moon in poems and essays. They mainly did that to flirt with the girls, which they got crushed on. And if the girls fell for that, they got a wife... or a few.

Vietnamese has the same culture too. And I think in many Asian countries, they have this same attitude. Love is as beautiful as the Moon. How about Western culture? I really don't know, so if you are one of those, please kindly comment.

My 'Love = Moon' Logic

What about me. I don't think so. My thought is totally apposite. I have a twisted mind? Really? Then read my thoughts.

I agree witht the author, and I think only I have this feeling. Love is like the Moon in this way... it's unstable. One day you strongly love, the other day you don't. Just like the Moon. There are few characteristics of the moon:

Only display at night time. If it display at daytime, you hardly see it. Same as Love?

There is full Moon, and there is no Moon. When the Moon reach it's peak, it's round and so beautiful. But at the end of the cycle, it disappear. Same as Love?

There is bright night, there is cloudy night. When the sky is clear, the Moon shine. When the sky is cloudy, the Moon is so hard to see. Same as Love?

I hope these 3 points are enough to display my thoughts on comparing Love to the Moon. If not, then feel free to use the comment form to throw some feedback at me.

To the Girls

After reading my thoughts, do you still like it when the guy compare his Love with the Moon?

I will let you decide, so please kindly use the comment form.

To the Guys

After reading my twisted thoughts, do you still exploit the Moon to respresent your Love?

I will let you decide, so please kindly use the comment form.
